About Us
We exist for people in high-responsibility roles, where performance must be sustained, not just improved. Performance Paradox combines three disciplines into one system.
Humanitarian and operational leadership
Elite sport science and recovery systems
Organisational performance psychology
Our founders bring experience across UN conflict and humanitarian environments, Olympic and high-performance sport, police and defence coaching and capability pathways.
We work with emergency services, defence, government, sporting organisations and others that operate under pressure. They carry responsibility and are expected to deliver beyond what their systems were designed to support.
What makes our work different is simple. We design and embed performance systems that improve how individuals think, behave and lead, while ensuring that performance will be sustained over time.
Our work is evidence based, empirically grounded and operationally relevant, designed specifically for the environments where peak performance saves lives.
We build performance systems.
How we think
The Paradox
High performance does not come from eliminating pressure. It comes from building the capacity to operate within it. That is the paradox at the centre of everything we do.
People
The people we work with are already capable. They are not lacking effort, discipline, or standards. They do not need to be tougher. People need better systems for sustainable performance
system
Systems for recovery that treat it as a performance tool, not a reward. Systems for decision-making that hold under stress. Systems for leadership that protect the people delivering the results.
progress
We know progress is not linear. Sometimes you go backwards before you move forward. That is not failure. It is how capability is built. We stay locked in our clients’ corner and speak honestly, because that is what performance requires.
for people in high-exposure roles.
Where the pressure is structural, not personal - and where the standard response has been to push through rather than build capacity.
The four energy domains
Our programs draw on frameworks developed across our founders' careers, grounded in Loehr and Schwartz's foundational research on human performance. We have adapted their four energy domains into language that works for operational and high-pressure environments.
-
Physical
Sleep, recovery, movement and nutrition, treated as performance infrastructure, not lifestyle choices.
The foundation everything else is built on.
-
Mental
The cognitive capacity to think clearly and make key decisions under pressure is trained like any other performance skill.
Includes attention, control and decision-making.
-
Emotional
The ability to regulate arousal and activation in high-exposure environments, without suppressing the responses that support good judgment.
-
Spiritual
The capacity to stay connected to purpose across a career that will test it.
Protects against cynicism, disengagement and identity erosion.
Our purpose
To build the human capacity to perform sustainably under pressure,
so that people who carry the weight of high-responsibility roles can grow without breaking.
How we operate
-
The courage to not know
We ask better questions than we give ready answers.
We arrive with rigour and an open mind, not a fixed program and a slide deck.
-
Lightness in the heaviest moments
We work in serious environments.
Humour is not a deflection from that. It is a way of staying human within it, and our audiences know exactly how to use it.
-
Honest before comfortable
We say what we observe, not what people want to hear.
We are consistent in how we show up, from day one onwards.
-
Consistent under pressure
We bring our lived experience into the room because it is relevant.
We do not perform expertise. We demonstrate it.
